Meter to Modem Adapters and Extender Cables
There is no one universal standard of electrical communication port on I&C electricity meters, and rarely is there a standard space envelope or position to locate and hold a modem. METMOTEC have a range of standard PCB or flying lead adapters for meter RS232 communications ports which connect to its modems. Custom designed converters can be supplied dependent on quantity. Example meter connectors include 25 and 9 pin D-sub, RJ11, RJ12, RJ45, terminal blocks, etc. There is also a range of RS232 to RS485 breakout adapters for local meter/modem networking (see LANs page on this website)
Modem Programming Cables
Adapter cables connect USB port of PCs to METMOTEC’s modems to enable their set up. Power to the modem is supplied on the USB connection. A version of the programming cable is available for connection to earlier model PCs via the 9 pin D-sub port (powered versions only).
Surge Protectors
GSM modems can be made inoperable by lightning striking antennas. Lightning strikes to PSTN modem connected telephone lines is possibly more common due to the length of vulnerable line and can be a frequent problem in mountainous and tropical zones where electrical storms are prevalent. For modem operators it is worth noting that it matters little whether lines are above or below ground, both situations are vulnerable. (To help identify possible vulnerability in your application use GOOGLE IMAGES with the search term ‘world lightning strike map’, but note local conditions need local knowledge).
METMOTEC supplies inline surge protectors for GSM and PSTN modems. All surge protectors are high quality European made, are small in size and easy to fit.
