Specialisation
METMOTEC’s specialisation is markets and technology for AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) and data communications used in remote instruments, an area now broadly termed M2M (‘machine to machine’ communications). The company’s main experience is in I&C (Industrial & Commercial) utility metering but has experience of residential ‘smart metering’ and other telemetry applications.

- Custom Product Design. METMOTEC offers services in the specification, design and supply of custom data communications connections for meters and M2M applications, usually in conjunction with specialised technology design partners
- Product Sourcing. METMOTEC provides research services to help clients to identify suppliers of specialist metering and communications equipment and software for meter reading and remote data collection. The company has contacts with and a substantial database of equipment and software suppliers principally in the European Union
- Market Research. The company can undertake projects to identify target UK customers in the utilities sector for companies seeking to export to the UK. Targets can include equipment distributors, OEM customers, utilities and other end-users
Competence
The company has decades of experience in data communications technology for metering and other M2M applications. Before launching its product range in 2012, when it adopted the name ‘METMOTEC’, the company operated as a strategic marketing and product development consultancy and provided services to over 35 companies over the last two decades. In the 1990s it was a Consultant for the UK Government’s ‘Enterprise Initiative Scheme’ providing high-tech SMEs (small & medium size enterprises) with market research and strategic marketing plans. The scheme contractors for which the company worked included The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Cranfield School of Management and Warwick University for which the company completed a scheme record of 22 projects.
In the 1990s the company won five major innovation awards for technology product development including two SMART Awards from the then Welsh Office. In the last19 years the company has been involved in the design of a number of modems for clients for use in metering and telemetry, during which time it specialised in I&C metering by assisting clients in marketing and sales strategy and product development. It has worked with world market leaders in AMR (automated meter reading) products and services in the electricity, gas and water sectors.
METMOTEC has contacts at senior level in major meter manufacturers, meter operators and utilities principally in the United Kingdom, but also many in continental Europe and around the world.
